Gunmen have killed the Head of Bororo community in Oro-Ago, Irepodun local government area of Kwara State.

The deceased Alhaji Sheidu Madawaki was said to have been killed on Sunday.

A family source said that three gun wielding men stormed the residence of the Bororo leader around 9:30pm on Sunday and shot him dead.

“They were three in number. One of them stationed himself outside the residence shooting sporadically while two went into the house and shot him in his bedroom.

“They came and operated with riffles suspected to be AK 47 causing panic and fear in the community,” the source added.

The source also said that security operatives including the officials of the police and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Oro Ago division visited the scene of the incident on Monday.

The deceased, it was learnt, paid a courtesy visit to the NSCDC office penultimate Monday “to establish a synergy on how to improve and sustain the existing peaceful coexistence in the kingdom.

“He emphasised on the need for protection of informant and was assured”, a security source said.

A security source who confirmed the incident said “Investigation is ongoing to ascertain the reason for the attack.

“But for now, we suspect it might likely be as a result of his closeness with and readiness to support security agencies in the area in the discharge of their duties.”

Meanwhile, Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, on Monday met with the Fulani community in the state, reassuring them of fair treatment and urging them to work with the government and other stakeholders to prevent crimes.

The Fulani in Kwara, like other communities in the state, would receive government’s protection and patronage in terms of infrastructure projects and social security programmes, the Governor added.

A statement by Rafiu Ajakaye, Chief Press Secretary to the governor said the meeting was attended by Fulani leaders and representatives from across the 16 local government areas of the state.
