It was also learnt that another resident of the settlement was also shot by the gunmen and was evacuated to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) in the state capital, where he is currently receiving treatment.

Meanwhile, the Bauchi State Police Command has confirmed the incident, assuring that the perpetrators would soon be nabbed as the state Commissioner of Police, Sylvester Abiodun Alabi, has directed that operatives should go after the gunmen, apprehend and bring them to justice.

Confirming the incident to journalists, the command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ahmed Mohammed Wakili, informed that the late Muhammad came out of his house upon hearing noise of struggling of one of his sons with some people at the gate.

According to Wakil, a Superintendent of Police (SP), on sighting the deceased, the gunmen shot him in the neck and he died on the spot.

“Yes, I can confirm to you that unknown gunmen attacked Burshin Fulani and killed one man, Abubakar Garba Muhammad of The Federal Polytechnic. He was shot on the neck and died on the spot. “Our patrol team stationed at the main gate of the Polytechnic on hearing gunshots from the direction at about 4 am, quickly mobilised and rushed to the area and on sighting the light of the patrol van, the gunmen fled,” the police spokesman said.

While assuring that the perpetrators would not go scot-free, the PPRO said, “the Commissioner of Police, Sylvester Abiodun Alabi has directed that the police should go after the gunmen, apprehend and bring them to justice. Our men are after them now and very soon, they will get to them.”
