The Zamfara State Police Command has debunked reports that bandits killed 20 security operatives in Shinkafi Local Government Area of the state.

The spokesperson for the command, SP Mohammed Shehu, said three security operatives – one policeman and two personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, were killed when some bandits attacked a community in the Shinkafi Local Government Area.

Shehu said, “What happened was that on October 28, 2021, Joint Police/Civil Defence operatives deployed in the Kaura Namoda – Shinkafi Road to stem the tide of banditry, kidnapping and other heinous crimes were ambushed by bandits who came in a large number.

“The operatives engaged the hoodlums in a gun duel that lasted for hours. Some of the assailants were neutralised while others escaped with possible gunshot injuries.

“Unfortunately, a policeman and two Civil Defence personnel paid the supreme price and their corpses were evacuated and buried accordingly.”

He said the command had deployed more policemen in the area and urged the public to shun the attempt to create fear.
