Nine home-bound wedding guests killed as vehicles crash in Bayelsa

At least nine persons have lost their lives on the spot and several others injured in a road accident along Gloryland Drive in the Igbogene suburb of Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

It was gathered that the accident, which happened around 5pm on Saturday, involved a Toyota Hiace bus, with number plate AKL 652 YP, and a Toyota Forerunner, with number plate KMK 923 AA.

Many of the victims, especially occupants of the bus, were said to be travelling to the Sagbama Local Government Area of the state after attending a wedding in Yenagoa.

The corpses were deposited at the morgue of the Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital, Okolobiri, while the survivors were said to be receiving treatment in the health facility.

The state police spokesman, SP Asinim Butswat, who confirmed the accident in a statement said the command has commenced investigation into the incident.

Butswat said, “Sketch marks of the scene were taken; the vehicles were also taken to the Igbogene division for further inspection.”
