Seven people were killed by gunmen suspected of being bandits on the Shinkafi-Moriki-Kaura-Namoda Road in Zamfara State.

According to a report by The Punch, the hoodlums also set vehicles and food items on fire.

A resident, Musa Shuaibu, who confirmed the incident to newsmen, said the bandits attacked 15 vehicles and set five of them ablaze.

Shuaibu said, “They blocked the road, abducted many passengers from vehicles and moved away with them to an unknown destination.”

Some of the affected vehicles, according to him, included three golf cars, one truck conveying tomatoes and a Sharon vehicle.

He maintained that the bandits had been on the road since last Wednesday.

“They set ablaze five vehicles and goods worth millions of naira and also damaged many vehicles.

“You will hardly see motorists plying the road because of the heavy presence of the bandits and their leader, Bello Turji,” he added.

A spokesperson for the command, SP Mohammed Shehu, could not be reached on the telephone as efforts to reach him failed.
