A confrontation between competing cult groups in Ondo State has resulted in the deaths of five people.

A renowned Disc Jockey in the area, Idowu Agbude, a tricycle rider, and one Asogbon Obayomi were among those murdered in the confrontation in Igbokoda, the headquarters of the state’s Ilaje Local Government Area.

According to reports, the conflict erupted as a consequence of a property dispute in the region, which has cost the lives of over 20 people since May of this year.

Cultists in the region, according to Prince Emorioloye Owolemi, a resident of Igbokoda, have exploited a land dispute that has been going on since 2012.

Owolemi maintained that since the crisis started, most residents of the community had living in fear over the unknown.

While disclosing that security agencies have been mobilised to restore normalcy to the community, the Chairman, Ilaje Local Government, Olamigoke Jatuwase, said had equally briefed the state government over the development.

When contacted, the Ondo Police Public Relations Officer in the State, DSP Fumilayo Odunlami, said she was yet to be briefed on the situation.
