24-year-old man arrested for snatching car with toy gun in Niger

24-year-old man, Sylvanus Ishaku, has been arrested by the police for allegedly snatching a car with toy gun in Niger State.

The State Police Spokesperson, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, who made tis known in a statement on Thursday, February 24, said that the suspect snatched the vehicle from a female victim using the toy gun.

“On 15/02/2022 at about 1842hrs, based on credible intelligence received, Police operatives attached to Paiko Division intercepted and arrested one Sylvanus Ishaku aged 24yrs ‘m’ of Dikko, with a Toyota Matrix vehicle with Reg No. MNA 492 TC,” the PPRO state.

“The suspect was reported to have snatched the said vehicle at Brighter area of Minna from a female victim who was entering her compound at a gun point, and zoomed off through Suleja road. He was arrested at Ali Gabadna Junction, Paiko, Paikoro LGA when trying to escape with the vehicle.

“During search, a toy gun was recovered from the suspect, while preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect snatched the vehicle with the use of the toy gun.

“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime and claimed that he left Dikko to Minna since December, 2021 and bought the toy gun at a supermarket in Minna.

He confessed further that he resides at an uncompleted building in Shango area and he usually roam about the locality, searching for an appropriate situation and target to strike.

“He said he intends to take the vehicle to Abuja for sale in order to raise some money for his personal use. Case is under investigation.” Wasiu added.
