Importer of ‘jihadist drug’ arrested after six months on the run, NDLEA discloses

The National Drug Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has disclosed that it has arrested one Nwoku Uche over the importation of 451,807 Captagon tablets popularly called “jihadist drug”.

This was contained in a statement issued by NDLEA spokesman, Femi Babafemi.

According to Babafemi, the 36-year-old suspect had been on the run for six months after importing the substance weighing 79.119kg through the Apapa Seaport, Lagos in September 2021.

“In his statements, he claimed to have met the person who gave him the job on LinkedIn while he was paid N5m to clear the container,” Babafemi said.

“He then used a third party bank account to process the Form M for the clearing of the illicit consignment.

The NDLEA spokesman added that over 41 suspects have been arrested in Abuja and Kaduna state for drug-related crimes.

He said at least 30 suspects were arrested at the Malali area of Kaduna :the state.

Usman Dahiru, a suspect, was arrested with 24kg cannabis concealed in two sacks of used clothes on March 3, along Abuja-Kaduna express road.

Babafemi said another suspect, Abdulrazaq Rabi’u, was also arrested with 100,000 counterfeit US dollars.

He added that NDLEA operatives in Anambra recovered 38,862 red star cartridges along with 13 cartons of illicit drugs during a raid on a warehouse in Onitsha.

The NDLEA spokesperson also said 11 suspects were arrested and 81.2kg of drugs were seized in a major raid on March 5.
