25-year-old man brutally murdered by suspected herdsmen on his way home from church laid to rest in Adamawa

After he was brutally killed by suspected herdsmen, 25-year-old Sheriff Yongo has been laid to rest in his hometown in Adamawa State.

Assailants reportedly killed Sheriff Yongo from Dong in Demsa Local Government Area of Adamawa State, while coming back from Lutheran Church of Christ in Nigeria (LCCN) convention in Numan.

Two other persons identified as Gambo Dong and Benedict Paul managed to escape the brutal attack which occurred on Saturday night, March 5. He was buried on Tuesday, March 8.

The eyewitnesses, Gambo and Benedict, while narrating the incident to newsmen, said that the assailants suspected to be Fulani herdsmen laid ambush before Dong Village in the night and attacked  them while going home after evening session of the church convention.

“They opened touch light on us and staged themselves group by group, we ran into the bush while Sheriff was caught by the assailants. We waited to see him but to no avail only to discovered his body was matcheted, battered and his hand and fingers cut-off,”

“This brutal killings has been persistent along Dong axis,we loss so many youths and kidnappings has also been in the increase”

According to Gambo, Late Sheriff is staff of Primary Health Care Dong.

Meanwhile, Adamawa State House of Assembly has urged the Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri led administration to unravel the circumstances which led to the killing of the young man.

The assembly during its sitting on Tuesday, presided by its Speaker, Rt. Hon. Aminu Iya Abbas, resolved and urged the government to launch an investigation with a view to unravelling the remote cause of the incident.

Likewise, the assembly has appealed to both the executive arm and security operatives to increase the number of security personnel in Dong community in particular so as to curtail security threats.

The Honourable Members unanimously extended their words of comfort and sympathy to the immediate family of more especially the deceased, Dong community and entire Demsa LGA over the attack.

The assembly’s action was sequel to the matter of urgent public interest brought before it by the member representing Demsa constituency, Hon. Kate Raymond Mamuno.
