13 die, 32 injured in Jigawa road accident

Thirteen people were killed and numerous more were injured in a car accident in Jigawa State’s Ringim Local Government Area.

According to reports, the tragedy occurred Friday morning in Shafar village when a trailer carrying passengers and animals lost control.

As a result, several individuals perished on the spot, according to one eyewitness, while others were injured to varied degrees.

ASP Lawan Shiisu Adam, spokesman for the Jigawa State Police command, verified the event.

According to him, “The incident happened on Friday at about 0630hrs after a trailer truck with Reg no TAR 357 XA JG, loaded with about 53 passengers, cows and goats from Maigatari LGA, heading to Lagos State, driven by one Babangida Mohammed, 28, of Azare LGA, Bauchi State had an accident.”

He said the unfortunate incident happened when the said driver lost control on reaching a point called Kwanar Shafar Ringim Area, as a result, the vehicle fell and overturned.

Shiisu said a team of Policemen rushed to the scene on a rescue mission and 13 persons died on the spot.

He said 32 persons sustained injuries and rushed to Ringim General Hospital for medical attention.

Shiisu said some of the victims were referred to Rashid Shekoni Teaching Hospital, Dutse for further treatment.

He said three corpses are yet to be identified.
