In the Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State’s Zak Community, a fight between vigilantes and bandits has claimed the lives of twelve (12) people.
Nine bandits and three vigilantes were killed in the incident, which occurred around 9 am on Sunday, according to a source.
Major Ishaku Takwa, a spokesman for Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), a multi-security taskforce responsible for preserving the state’s peace, was unable to provide an exact figure for the victims but did confirm the incident.
He described how the soldiers thwarted the attack.
Bandits had reportedly issued quit notices to residents of Sabon Zama, Gindin Dutse, Anguwan Tsohon Soldier, Anguwan Yuhana and Anguwan Mangu villages of Wase to vacate their areas or face a war.
DAILY POST reports that the quit notices given to the residents made many people in the affected areas flee to Wase town for fear of attack.
Zak, the community where the incident happened, is about 40 kilometers from Wase town, the headquarters of Wase Local Government Area of the State.
