Soldiers allegedly torture man to death in Nasarawa

Soldiers have allegedly tortured a young man identified as Suleman Usman Akumaji to death in Nasarawa State.

The incident happened in Tunga community, Awe Local Government Area of the state on Saturday.

According to SaharaReporters, the soldiers were said to have arrested a man for theft, and the accused person identified Suleman as an accomplice.

Suleman was subsequently invited to their military base and he honoured the invitation but denied being an accomplice in the alleged theft.

“Soldier killed one innocent boy in Tunga District in Awe local government area of Nasarawa state without committing anything (offence) seriously, we need justice, please

“They arrested one guy who mentioned him in a case of theft; they invited him and hanged him for more than 6 hours.

“After they realised he was no more alive, they released his body to his family to take him to the hospital,” a resident of the community told SaharaReporters.

The Director, Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, could not be reached for comments as he did not answer his calls nor reply to text message sent to his mobile line.
