Three women have been arraigned for an alleged conspiracy, trafficking of newborn twins and subsequent killing of their mother in Enugu State.

The state police spokesman, Daniel Ndukwe, who made this known in a statement on Friday said the suspects; Ukorie Cynthia (25), Onyia Pauline (56) and Aroh Ijeoma (39) were remanded in the Enugu Maximum Correctional Centre on Friday.

The statement stated that the trio were first arrested by operatives of the command attached to the Central Police Station Enugu July 26, 2022 following complaints that the suspects had conspired and sold newborn twins of one 31-year-old Chinenye Odoh.

The statement noted that the suspects didn’t stop with the selling of the twins, but also murdered their mother by poisoning her food after she realised that the suspects gave her an amount lesser than the amount they sold her babies.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Police Command on Friday arrested a man, Daniel Chigozie, for allegedly conspiring with two others to sell his three-month-old baby for N400, 000.

After allegedly conniving with his doctor, Musa Peter, and a nurse, Ezieke Chinenye, Chigozie sold the baby to another woman identified as Ezeobi Chinenye, without the knowledge of the baby’s mother.

It was learnt that after fruitless search for the baby, the police were informed after which the suspects were eventually arrested.

The state police spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, in a tweet on Thursday, said, “A father connived with his doctor and nurse and sold his three-month-old- baby to a woman for N400, 000 without the knowledge of the mother. After days of searching, the police were informed. All suspects arrested. Baby is safe’’

Contacted, Hundeyin said that the incident occurred on August 20, 2022 at Oke-Odo, Lagos, adding that the suspects were arrested on Thursday, August 25, 2022.
