Two dead, seven rescued as canoe capsizes in Jigawa

Two boys, Imran Rabiu (12) and Tasiu Rabiu (14), have been confirmed dead after the canoe they were travelling in capsized following a downpour accompanied by a wind storm in Jigawa State, Police in the state said on Tuesday.

The state police spokesperson, DSP Shiisu Adam, who disclosed this in a statement, said seven others were rescued from the incident which occurred on Saturday, August 27, 2022 between Galauchime and Sansani villages in Miga Local Government Area of the state.

The PPRO said Imran, Tasiu and the seven other farmers were returning to Sansani from their farms when their canoe, paddled by one Ado Dan Maguga, capsized due to heavy rain and windstorm.

The statement read, “Seven people were rescued while two were not found.”

DSP Adam identified the two victims that were not found as “Imran Rabiu ‘m’ 12yrs and Tasiu Rabiu ‘m’ aged 14yrs.”

He added that their corpses were later found and consequently released to their family for burial.
