Tension is currently brewing in Enugu as the former Secretary to the Enugu State Government, Dr. Dan Shere has been abducted.

WITHIN NIGERIA gathered  that he is among several other commuters kidnapped along the Enugu-Ugwuogo Nike-Nsukka Road on Thursday.

Dr. Shere, a medical doctor, served under the administration of former Governor, Chimaroke Nnamani(199-2007).

An impeccable source told our correspondent that the Enugu politician was travelling to Nsukka for a meeting when the hoodlums waylaid  him with other travellers.

However, one  of the survivors, who shared a video of the attack, narrated that the gunmen were about eight in number.

According to the survivor, “they shot severally at our vehicle; one of us was hit by the bullets. But our driver managed to move on. We succeeded in taking the victim to the hospital,” he narrated while thanking God for saving him and four others from the same community.

Our reporter gathered that the kidnappers, who are said to be Fulani herdsmen, have increased their ransom demand on those they earlier picked on Sunday.

“Before now, they were demanding the sum of N2m but after going through the phone of their victims, they increased their ransom demand to N30m. The go through their victims’ phones to know their status.” the source said.

Our reporter equally gathered that returning students of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, who were abducted on Sunday are also yet to be freed.

Nevertheless, when our reporter contacted the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Enugu State Police Command, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, he could not pick his phone.
