A 36-year-old man, Mayowa Dele, has been remanded for allegedly killing his girlfriend, removing her private parts and attempting to cook the body parts for concoction when he was arrested.

The police prosecutor, Thomas Nurudeen, told the court that the content of the pot he put on fire was found to be some of the deceased’s body parts.

Thomas, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, said the incident happened at Ijedodo Road, Ijegun area of Lagos, where the remains of the victim, one Mercy, was recovered.

“My Lord, three suspects; Oluwakemi Azeez (20), Oyedegun Adewale (27) and Jejelaye Osusola (22) were also arrested for their alleged involvement in the murder of Mercy.

“Apart from putting some of the body parts in the pot to cook, he also put some inside a cement bag and kept it in his room while the remaining parts were wrapped up in bed sheets and buried in an uncompleted building in the area,” the police said.

The police insisted that though the motive behind the murder has not been established, detectives from the state command got intelligence of what happened, stormed the house and recovered the body parts of the deceased as exhibits.

ASP Nurudeen explained that the discovery led to the arrest of the prime suspect and that he was detained for interrogation over the dastardly act.

During interrogation, he said the suspect implicated the others.

However, when they were arraigned, the court did not take their plea following a motion moved by the prosecutor asking the court to refer the matter to the Department of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice.

The magistrate, Mr P.E. Nwaka, ordered their remand at the correctional centre pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP.

The matter was adjourned pending when the DPP’s report will be ready.
