Four travelers have been kidnapped by gunmen along the Irele Ekiti-Oke Ako Highway in the Ajoni Local Council Development Area.

The highway has seen a number of kidnappings and murders in recent years.

The victims in the most recent incident were on their way back to Ibadan on Sunday after attending an event in Kogi.

They were ambushed by a gang of armed men who took them into the forest. The families of the victims have not been reached.

A community leader in Irele-Ekiti, Kehinde Abejide lamented that the attacks had become incessant.

Abejide said the government appears to be doing nothing despite the hue and cry of the people.

“Though we have in the past made local arrangements here relating to security, it can never be enough to confront these people.

“There is the need for a military post between Irele and Oke Ako to forestall attacks by these gunmen”, NAN quoted him saying.

State Commander of Amotekun Corps, retired Brig-Gen. Joe Komolafe, confirmed the incident.

Komolafe said operatives were already combing the forest in the area in search of the captives.
