Angry youths on rampage as truck crushes six women to death in Maiduguri

Angry youths have set ablaze two tippers after six women were crushed to death due to a break failure suffered by a truck along the Gubio road on the outskirt of Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

The incident occurred on Friday around 10:05 am at Kaswan Fara, Shagari Lowcost Estate area, Maiduguri.

According to Daily Trust, an eyewitness, Kola Fatai, said the truck rammed into a pickup conveying women who were going to the farm, killing at least 6 of them.

Another eyewitness said the truck which caused the road mishap was attempting to overtake another tipper, but lost control and crashed into the pick conveying the women.

A resident, Iman Buba, who also confirmed the incident on telephone said irritated youths set ablaze two tippers (trucks) .

Daily Trust reported that police has tried to calm the situation as the protesters have barricaded the road leading to Gubio from Maiduguri.

Security agencies were deployed to the scene to bring the situation under control.

When contacted the state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP SK Shatambaya, said the command is yet to be briefed on the incident as at the time of filing this report.
