Suspected ‘motorcycle thief’ burnt to death in Jos

A suspected motorcycle thief has been killed and burnt by angry youths at the Mado area of Tudun community in Jos North LGA of Plateau State.

The incident which occurred on Tuesday night was coming two weeks after a suspected motorcycle thief was killed and set ablaze in the same area.

According to Daily Trust, a vigilante identified as David Musa, said that the suspect was apprehended while he was trying to run with a motorcycle.

He said, “The incident occurred around 9pm when many people had left the street. The suspect, alongside his friend, asked an Okada man to take them to an area within the community. While they were on the bike, the two suspects asked the biker to stop.

“As soon as he stopped, they stabbed him on the back with a knife, and the motorcyclist started screaming. Unfortunately for the suspects, people quickly surrounded the area and arrested one of them who was eventually killed and burned.”

Musa explained that, “When they started beating the suspect, the vigilantes asked the youths to stop, but they refused and continued beating him. We thought they had left him, but in the morning we saw his body burnt. The youths said they took the law into their hands believing that if the suspect was taken to the police station he might be freed by the police.”

The aforementioned publication reported that the state police spokesperson, DSP Alabo Alfred, could not be reached to comment on the incident as didn’t respond to call and SMS sent to him.
