Three people were killed and eight others were injured in an accident involving a Toyota Corolla car and a Nissan Micra taxi near Ile Ise Paanu in Ogun’s Ewekoro Local Government Area.

The spokesman for the Ogun Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the incident in Abeokuta on Friday.

Akinbiyi said the accident occurred at about 7:30 a.m. due to excessive speed and a loss of control on the part of the driver of the Toyota Corolla.

He added that the driver of the Corolla, marked LND 618 FQ, lost control and rammed into the Nissan Micra taxi with registration number AKM 590 YQ.

“According to an eyewitness, the driver of the Corolla car, due to excessive speed, lost control while in motion and rammed into the Micra taxi from the back while passengers in the taxi were alighting from it,” he said.

Akinbiyi explained that 11 people were involved in the accident, comprising four males and seven females, adding that eight people were injured while three died.

The TRACE spokesman said both the injured and the deceased were taken to the General Hospital, Ijaiye and Federal Medical Centre Abeokuta, respectively.

He commiserates with the families of the dead, urging motorists to avoid speeding, especially now that visibility is very poor.
