Police kill robbery suspect during gun battle in Edo

Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have killed a robbery suspect in a gun battle while another suspect was arrested with arms.

The state police spokesperson, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, who made this known in a statement on Thursday, noted that the operation was carried out with men of the Edo State Security Network.

The statement read in part, “Police operatives attached to Ugbor Division, GRA, Benin City, Edo State, and the Edo State Security Network personnel, led by the Divisional Police Officer, on Wednesday, January 4, 2023, around 8pm, successfully engaged a robbery gang, arrested one, neutralised one, recovered one cut-to-size gun and two cartridges.

“The arrested suspect, Ahmed Ibrahim, aged 19, is currently in police custody and will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, while the body of the deceased armed robber, whose name is yet unknown, has been deposited in the Stella Obasanjo Mortuary in the state.”
