Young man killed by Chief Security Officer of Local Government in Enugu buried amid tears

Tears flowed freely in Umuobira village, Nkpologu community in Uzo-Uwani local government area of Enugu state on Tuesday as the murdered Enugu man was laid to rest.

Philip Okoro Jnr was buried on his hometown, Nkpologu amid tears, by parents, well wishers and youths of the community.

Recall that Philip Okoro Jnr was allegedly shot dead by the Chief Security Officer of the local government, Barr. Chijioke Ezugwu and his team on June 29, 2022 inside the victim’s house.

Our source explained that ” by 1am on Wednesday, June 29, 2022 the Chief Security Officer and about five of his gang members invaded Umuobira village and started shooting sporadically in the air.

“They forcefully entered into the house of one of our community dwellers, Mr. Philip Junior, shot him at back with his intestine open and took three other persons to Police Area command, Nsukka, alleging that they were bad guys terrorizing the community and taking hard drugs popularly known as Mkpuru Mmiri”.

An eye witness who pleaded anonymity told our reporter that ” in the morning when the community dwellers learnt of what happened, they went to Police Area Command, Nsukka  with the President General, PG  of the community, Joseph Alumuna to lodge their complaint.

“On getting to the Area Command, the PG confirmed that Mr. Philip Okoro Jnr and three other suspects under police custody were not bad guys as alleged by the Chief Security Officer.  They were immediately released and the Chief Security Officer was immediately arrested by the police while his gang members were said to be currently at large.”

WITHIN NIGERIA gathered that the victim, Mr. Philip Okoro Jnr was taken to Bishop Shanahan hospital, Nsukka where he was subsequently referred to University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, UNTH Enugu.

On their way to UNTH, Enugu, the victim gave up the ghost.

WITHIN NIGERIA source revealed that the incident sparked off a lot of protests leading to the arrest and subsequent detention of the suspects.

The prime suspect, Barr. Ezugwu was later release, an act that sparked off another unrest that resulted in the destruction of the building of the suspect. The case was later transferred to Abuja but few days after that, Barr. Ezugwu was released.

Our reporter gathered that till this moment, Barr. Ezugwu has been walking free in the streets of the state, a situation that has continued to agitate the minds of the youths, relations and friends of the deceased.
