Army Reacts to Trending Video of Soldier, Policeman Fighting in Lagos

A video of a soldier and a police officer fighting in the streets of Lagos has gotten the attention of the Nigerian army.

The video of the fight which has gone viral, showed the policeman, with a gun engaged the soldier in a fight while street urchins cheered them up.

Some policemen and soldiers were seen trying to settle the issue at hand. A teargas was fired by the police as the scene got messier.

Reacting, the 81 Division, in a statement issued and signed by Lt.-Col. Olaniyi Osoba said the Army division has commenced an investigation into the incident.

The video currently trending on social media shows a soldier engaged in a fierce fight with a policeman in Apongbon, Lagos Island on Wednesday.

Osoba said the Division was looking into the matter to fully ascertain what transpired between both parties.

He added that necessary sanctions will be taken after the investigation.

Meanwhile, Spokesperson, Lagos Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin said the incident had been reported to the military authorities.

He tweeted in response to the viral video: “Soldier, Policeman Fight In Lagos A trending video on Wednesday, has shown a soldier and a policeman getting into a fight on the road in Lagos State.

“Some of their colleagues can be seen in this video trying to resolve the fight before tear gas was fired. The Army has been informed.”
