Four policemen including three inspectors have been arrested by the police for alleged electoral offences in Rivers State.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, who disclosed this in a statement on Monday, said their arrest followed a viral video that captured the personnel in a security vehicle indulging in the electoral offence.

Iringe-Koko said the operatives are in custody and are being interrogated, while the vehicle they were in has been impounded.

The statement read, “Following a video which trended on social media and which suggested the involvement of some police personnel operating in a pick-up Vehicle with the inscription ‘RRT 050’ in alleged electoral malpractice, the Rivers State Police Command has arrested and taken into custody one officer and three inspectors for interrogation.

“The police pick-up van in the trending video has also been impounded for a thorough investigation.

“The command hereby assures the electorate in Rivers State of its unalloyed commitment to promoting the rule of law and assured all that all offenders found culpable will be adequately sanctioned.

“The command urges all residents to remain calm and await the official announcement of the result of the election.”
