Man rapes 16-year-old girl in Lagos

A 25-year-old man, Ishaya Madaki, has been remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre for allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl in the Iyana Iba area of Lagos State.

Magistrate Mrs E. Kubenje made the order on Tuesday after the defendant who is facing one-count bordering on rape preferred against him by the police was arraigned.

The police, Olakunle Orebe, told the court that the defendant committed the offence between September and October 2022, adding that the defendant forcefully had sexual intercourse with the teenager without her consent.

According to the prosecutor, the offence committed is punishable under Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The charge read, “That you, Ishaya Madaki, between September and October 2022 around 10am at RS 139 Post Service Housing Estate, Iyana Iba, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did forcefully have sexual intercourse with a 16-year-old girl and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Magistrate Mrs E. Kubenje did not take the plea of the defendant.

The case was adjourned till April 18, 2023, for mention.
