A 48-year-old native doctor, Ezekiel Buba, has been arrested by police for allegedly slaughtering a madman brought to him for treatment in Gombiyel, Shelleng Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

During interrogation at the police headquarters on Saturday, Buba blamed the devil for slaughtering the deceased

Buba narrated that the deceased, who was suffering from mental illness and epilepsy, was brought to him by his elder brother, Yahaya Musa in the company of other family members for treatment.

He explained that he earlier tested the deceased and found out that he was mentally deranged, but that he had no chickens at that time to slaughter to offer sacrifice for the man to get well.

“I usually slaughtered chickens for sacrifice to a demon in order to cure the madness. Failure to make sacrifice to the demon, a patient cannot get well,” Buba explained.

However, the elder brother of the slain madman, Yahaya Musa, insisted that “the native doctor murdered my brother; he was the one who slaughtered my brother.”

The State Police Spokesman, SP Suleiman Nguroje, confirmed that the suspect was in its custody.

He said, “The Commissioner of Police, CP Afolabi Babatola Adeniyi, had ordered for discreet investigation into the matter as well as the prosecution of the suspect if found wanting.”
