A suspected truck hijacker has passed away after he jumped off a moving stolen truck.

The deceased jumped out of the truck when he noticed police trailing the vehicle along the Lagos-Ibadan highway.

His cohort, Akeem Adeleke, have been detained by the police for the hijack of the truck loaded with industrial raw material.

Abimbola Oyeyemi, the Ogun State Police Command spokesperson, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.

He said that Adeleke was arrested following a distress call made to officers of the Federal Highway Patrol Team stationed along the expressway, by the driver of the truck.

The driver had run to the policemen to inform them that two gunmen had suddenly boarded his vehicle while in motion, pushed him out of the truck and drove off towards Lagos.

The team had pursued the truck towards Lagos.

According to the police spokesperson: “Having noticed that policemen were trailing them, one of the robbers who was driving the truck jumped out, but fell down and hit his head against the tarred road and he died on the spot,” Oyeyemi said.

He added that the accomplice was subsequently arrested and taken to Ewu-Oliwo Divisional Headquarters.

He disclosed that the DPO of Ewu-Oliwo Police Division, CSP Toyosi Bello, had accompanied the patrol team to the scene, where the corpse of the dead robber was recovered and taken to the morgue at Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu.

It’s learnt that one locally-made pistol, three live cartridges, two Itel phones and some charms were recovered from the suspects.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Frank Mba, has directed that the suspect be transferred to the State CIID for discreet investigation.
