Kolo Yusuf, the Commissioner of Police for Zamfara State, has deployed an additional tactical team to women and children who have recently been kidnapped by bandits.

According to him, bandits fleeing along the Kucheri-Wanzamai-Gidan Chida axis in Zamfara State’s Tsafe Local Government Area kidnapped women and children.

WITHIN NIGERIA learnt that a large number of bandits fleeing Zamfara State abducted a large number of people from the three communities of Wanzamai, Gidan Chida and Kucheri. The majority of the kidnapped victims are minors working on their respective farmlands in their villages. Some of them were reportedly from Yankara community in Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State.

It was also learnt that a few days before the mass abduction, a team of military operatives neutralised four suspected bandits during an operation in Gidan Damo community of Tsafe Local Government Area.

According to a source close to the military, troops of Operation Hadarin Daji launched surprise attacks in Rugu forest and neutralized many bandits forcing them to abandon their den. Scores of bandits reportedly sustained various degrees of injuries.

A press statement issued by the Zamfara State Police Command and signed by its public relations officer, SP Muhammad Shehu, urged residents of the state to disregard the outrageous figures being circulated in some sections of the media.

The command further reassured the public, especially families of the kidnapped victims, that it is working in collaboration with the military and vigilantes to rescue the victims and reunite them with their families.
