Seven suspected kidnappers have been apprehended in the Kaduna state, the police in the North West state have said.

DSP Mohammed Jalige, Public Relations Officer of the command, made this known in a statement on Thursday.

According to him, the arrest of the kidnappers followed a marching order handed down by the acting Commissioner of Police, DCP Mamman B. Giwa to Divisional Police Officers and Tactical Commanders to go after the criminals in the state.

“At about 1320hrs, a patrol team attached to Saminaka Area Command in conjunction with hunters group in Lere LGA apprehended one Yusuf Idi ‘M’ aged 25yrs along with six (6) others at Mariri Village in Lere LGA,” he said.

He said the suspects confessed to the crime during investigations, adding that some exhibits were recovered from them.

Jalige said an AK-47 rifle with 14 rounds of 7.62 X 39mm live ammunition, one locally fabricated long range double-barrel gun used for expending 12-gauge live cartridges and one locally made pistol that uses .9mm live ammunition were some of the exhibits recovered.

According to him, a preliminary investigation is ongoing and efforts have been intensified to recover more arms and ammunition.

He said though the environment is presently calm, officers and men have continued to patrol the general areas, just as the Acting Commissioner of Police in the state, DCP Mamman Giwa commended the officers and men for the arrest and recoveries.
