Four men sentenced to death by hanging for murder in Jigawa

Four men have been sentenced to death by hanging for murder in Kalawa village, Ringim Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

The defendants, Salahu Yau, Aminu Salmanu, Salmanu Shafi’u, and Yusuf Sale were arraigned before the State High Court on a 4-count charge bordering on criminal conspiracy, criminal trespass, unlawful assembly, and culpable homicide.

Delivering the judgment on Friday, Justice Ahmad Muhammad Abubakar said the offense is contrary to Sections 100, 342, 97 & 221 of the penal Code Cap. 3 Laws of Jigawa State.

He said the Prosecution counsel proved his case beyond reasonable doubt and therefore convicted and sentenced them to death by hanging in accordance with Section 221(b) of the Penal Code (Cap. 3) Laws of Jigawa State 2014.

Justice Abubakar said the convicts were sentenced to 2 years imprisonment or pay a fine of N10,000 for the offense of unlawful assembly punishable by Section 103 of the same code.

They were also sentenced to 3 months imprisonment or pay a fine of N1,000 for the offense of criminal conspiracy punishable under Section 96 of the same code.

He said the punishment would serve as a deterrent to others.
