A 35-year-old bartender identified as Nyagh Isaiah, has been remanded for the alleged murder of his co-worker, Kingsley Kator, in the Ojuelegba area of Lagos State.

Nyagh was remanded on Tuesday by Magistrate P.E Nwaka on one count of murder.

WITHIN NIGERIA recalls that Nyagh was arrested by the police for allegedly killing his colleague, Kingsley Kato, during a fight over a Point of Sale, PoS transaction at a hotel in the Surulere Local Government Area of Lagos State.

According to the prosecution, Thomas Nurudeen, the defendant committed the crime on April 9, 2023, around 1 pm in the Ojuelegba area of Lagos State.

Nurudeen told the court that the deceased was murdered while the two of them were fighting each other using arms and a broken bottle.

According to the charge, the offence contravened Section 222 and is punishable under Section 223 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2015.

The charge read, “That you, Nyagh Isaiah, on April 9, 2023, around 1 pm, at the Ojuelegba area of Lagos State, in the Lagos Magisterial District did unlawfully kill one Kingsley Kator, aged 27 years by stabbing him to death with a broken bottle and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 223 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2015.”

The prosecutor prayed the court to remand the defendant at the Ikoyi Custodial Centre pending the issuance of legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution.

The defendant’s plea was, however ,not taken and in his ruling, the magistrate, Nwaka, granted the prosecutor’s request and ordered that the defendant be remanded pending the DPP’s advice.

Nwaka also adjourned the case till May 25, 2023, for trial.
