David Chimezie, 23, was arrested on Thursday in Ibadan’s Iyaganku Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing N700,000 from his aunt.
Chimezie, whose home location was not given, was charged with stealing.
The defendant, on the other hand, pled not guilty to the accusation.
The prosecution, Insp Olufemi Omilana, informed the court that Chimezie committed the crime on December 24, 2022, at 6:30 p.m., in Ibadan’s Eleyele neighbourhood.
Omilana said that the defendant took the money from Mrs Chioma Onyegbula, who borrowed it from a cooperative organization.
He said that the offence contravened Section 390(9) of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
The Magistrate, Mrs Munirat Giwa-Babalola, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
She adjourned the case until July 20 for a substantive hearing.
