Gunmen storm Rivers’ community, kill four

Gunmen suspected to be cultists have stormed Rundele community in Emohua Local Government area of Rivers State and killed four persons.

It was gathered that two of the victims’ were also beheaded during the Monday night attack.

The two persons beheaded are members of a local vigilante group known as the Rundele Security and Peace Advisory Council, locals said.

Although details of the incident are sketchy, it was gathered that many residents of the area have fled while some slept in the bush till Tuesday morning.

The source who pleaded anonymity in the community said, “The victims (RUSPAC members) were allegedly attacked while they were having a rest.

“After killing them, they abandon them and have their heads displayed in a place called the station in the community.”

He alleged that the miscreants (invaders) were members of the Dey-gbam cult group who escaped from the community and later regrouped to launch the onslaught.

The spokesperson of the Rivers State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko confirmed the killings, saying it was a clash between two rival gangs.

Iringe-Koko, a Superintendent of Police said though no arrest has been made, an investigation was ongoing to apprehend the culprits.

Iringe-Koko stated,” No arrest for now but the Commissioner of Police has deployed the tactical team to the area and urged them to ensure the hoodlums are apprehended and made to face the law.

“It was a cult clash between Ice Land and Dey-Gbam. During the gun battle, four persons were killed.”
