Court sends man to prison for defiling stepdaughter

One Linus Sunday has been arraigned before a Yaba Magistrates’ Court for allegedly defiling his seven-year-old step-daughter in the Aguda area of Lagos state.

He was arraigned by the state police command on on one count of defilement.

The 50-year-old defendant was subsequently remanded by Magistrate Patrick Nwaka at the request of the police.

The 50-year-old defendant was accused of committing the offence at Christ Believers’ Assembly at Aguda where he resides with his wife and her two daughters, his step-children.

The police prosecutor, Thomas Nurudeen, told the court that the defendant started committing the crime from December 2022 till February 2023 when his estranged wife found out.

Nurudeen added that the offence was contrary to and punishable under Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

The charge read in part, “That you, Linus Sunday, between December 2022 and February 2023, at Christ Believers Assembly at Aguda Lagos, in the Yaba Magisterial District did unlawfully defile one girl (name withheld) aged seven years and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”

The defendant’s plea was not taken.

Nurudeen prayed the court to remand the defendant pending the outcome of legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution.

Nwaka, thereafter, remanded the defendant pending DPP advice and adjourned the case till July 7, 2023
