An accident on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway has claimed four lives, authorities in Ogun state have said.

Eleven others sustained varying degrees of injuries in the lone accident involving a Foton bus at the Aiyetoro axis of the busy highway.

The Public Relations Officer for Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, Babatunde Akinbiyi confirmed the incident to newsmen in Abeokuta on Sunday.

Akinbiyi said the accident which occurred at 9:59 am on Sunday, involved 15 people that comprised three men and 12 women.

Akinbiyi said 11 women were injured while three men and one woman died in the accident.

Akinbiyi said the ill-fated commercial bus somersaulted into a ditch after its tyre burst while in motion.

He said, “According to an eyewitness account, the bus marked AGL 989 YA was coming from Ibadan inbound Lagos when it had a tyre burst on the driver’s side at Ayetoro axis on the expressway which led the bus to somersault into a ditch.”

Akinbiyi noted that the deceased were deposited at the Idera morgue, Sagamu while the injured victims were taken to Famobis Hospital, Mowe.

He, however, called on drivers to avoid excessive speed, tokunbo tyres and uphold simple traffic rules and regulations
