Godwin Emefiele, the suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has entered a not guilty plea to a charge of allegedly possessing a firearm brought by the Federal Government before the Federal High Court in Lagos.
Emefiele got there around 9:20 a.m.
Emefiele is facing a two-count allegation accusing him of illegally owning a single-barrel shotgun on June 15 (JOJEFF MAGNUM 8371).
The Federal Government, which is bringing charges against the man, insisted that the offence violated Section 4 of the Firearms Act of 2004 and was penalised under Section 27 (1b) of the same Act.
In the second count, the suspended CBN Governor was accused of having in his possession 123 rounds of live ammunition (Cartridges) without a licence, which was contrary to Section 8 of the Firearms Act 2004 and punishable under Section 27 (1)(b)(il) of the same Act.
