  • The transfer of electricity matters to the concurrent list prompts the government’s efforts to secure a consistent 22-hour power supply for communities
  • Ademola-Olateju discussed the initiative during a meeting at the Nigeria Union of Journalists Secretariat in Akure on Monday

Ondo State’s Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mrs. Bamidele Ademola-Olateju, has announced that the longstanding electricity issue in the state will soon become a thing of the past.

She shared that with the transfer of electricity matters to the concurrent list, the government has been diligently working towards ensuring that communities receive a consistent power supply for up to 22 hours.

Ademola-Olateju conveyed this during an interaction with reporters at the Nigeria Union of Journalists Secretariat in Akure, the state capital, on Monday. Additionally, the commissioner revealed the state’s intentions to establish its own electricity commission to oversee and regulate the power sector.

She said, “I know for sure that certain kilowatts of electricity will be generated by a private company, coming to Ondo State. I am bold to say, that by the time Governor Akeredolu will be leaving office in February 2025, based on our estimate, Akure and its environs will have 22 hours of power supply based on what we are expecting.

“I know, it will be a big relief for residents of this area. We are even considering our electricity regulation commission. So, everything is ready. ”

Ademola-Olateju also expressed the support of the state government to the nomination of the minister-designate from the state, Mr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who was screened by the senate on Monday.

She said Tunji-Ojo would represent the state brilliantly at the Federal Executive Council, because of his antecedents in public service.

“We are all in support of the nomination of Bunmi Tunji-Ojo. His antecedents are what we are proud of and we know he is going to make us proud.”
