One Jibrin Yusuf has been apprehended for allegedly raping and killing a seven-year-old girl, the police in Kastina state have said.
The incident happened at Kanon-Haki village in Faskari LGA of the north west State.
The 25-year-old suspect slit the throat of the minor after defiling her on her father’s farm.
ASP Sadiq Abubakar, the spokesman of the Katsina State Police Command, made the disclosure in a statement on Friday.
According to him, the father of the victim, Hassan Jibrin, had, on August 2, 2023, employed the suspect to convey fertiliser from one of his farms to the other, situated on the outskirts of the village.
Seeing that the little girl was left alone to watch over the fertiliser, the suspect forcefully dragged her to a nearby farm, where he raped and killed her
He thereafter moved the corpse to another farm, covered it with leaves, and made away with three bags of fertiliser.
Detectives investigating the case had arrested the suspect, who reportedly confessed to the rape and murder of the seven-year-old. The stolen bags of fertiliser were also recovered from him.
