  • The suspects were arrested at their hideout situated between the boundaries of Amata Ishiagu in Ivo LGA of Ebonyi and Lokpanta in Abia
  • Items recovered from them include two AK-47 rifles, one long double barrel gun and 40 AK-47 live ammunition and 70 live cartridges

No fewer than three suspected kidnappers were on Tuesday arrested by officers of the Ebonyi State Police Command.

The suspects; Elochukwu Ojukwu aka Alhaji, Bula Iliyasu and Umaru Ahijo aka Gunner, were arrested at their hideout that is situated between the boundaries of Amata Ishiagu in Ivo LGA of Ebonyi and Lokpanta in Abia states.

The Ebonyi State Commissioner of Police, Augustina Ogodo, made this known in a statement signed and made available to newsmen in Abakaliki by the command’s spokesperson, Onome Onovwakpoyeya, on Tuesday.

It was learnt that the suspects allegedly kidnapped one Inspector Ogbonnaya Oliver Nkama attached to Police Detective College, Enugu and one Mr Paul Ngara, who is the village chairman of Ngwogwogwo Ishiagu in Ivo LGA of Ebonyi State, on Sunday.

Ogodo noted that one of the suspects was neutralised while during a gun duel, while “One of the hoodlums was fatally wounded, two of the victims were rescued unhurt and three of the hoodlums were arrested unharmed,” she noted.

Items recovered from them include two AK-47 rifles, one long double barrel gun and 40 AK-47 live ammunition and 70 live cartridges.

Ogodo, however, warned criminals to either desist from crime or relocate from the state, as the command was working round the clock to ensure that anyone terrorising the state is arrested and brought to book.
