  • Bayelsa Governor Douye Diri calls for renaming the East-West Road to South-South Road to better reflect its regional significance
  • Governor Diri also advocates for a more inclusive Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs for the region’s residents to have a sense of belonging

Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri has urged the federal government to rename the East-West Road in the South-South region to reflect its true location and status better.

Governor Diri also urged the federal government to make the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs more inclusive to give Niger Delta residents a sense of belonging.

Diri made the call while receiving the Niger Delta Minister, Engr. Abubakar Momoh, and his entourage, which included the managing director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Dr Sam Ogbuku, at Government House in Yenagoa yesterday.

The governor said the East-West road had been in disrepair for years and that the road’s name, which crosses all South-South states, was a misnomer.

He said:

I believe that is a wrong nomenclature. That nomenclature should actually be the South-South Road because it links all the six states of the South-South region.

That nomenclature might have come in those days when Bayelsa was part of Rivers and they were part of the Eastern region, and when Delta and Edo states were part of the Mid-West region. So that nomenclature would have been a historical west to east.

Today, the story is different and I appeal that the federal government changes the nomenclature from East-West to South-South Road. That road is central to all the six states as it traverses all of them.

NSCDC alerts on fake recruitment letters

Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, (NSCDC) has alerted Nigerians on the circulation of fake and invalid employment letters purportedly from the Corps, warning unsuspecting and desperate job seekers to take caution in order not to fall victim to fraudsters and scammers.

According to a statement credited to the Crops Public Relations Officer (PRO), Babawale Afolabi, the Corps have been inundated with complaints from victims who had parted with their hard-earned money ranging from N250,000 to N500,000 before they were issued the fake letters only to get to the NSCDC office and find out that they have been scammed.
