  • Kebbi State government asks Birnin Kebbi residents for patience as power outage continues due to a fire at TCN
  • Two transformers were damaged in the fire, with repair work expected to take two weeks, according to engineers

The Kebbi State government has urged residents of Birnin Kebbi and its environs to be patient as the power outage caused by a fire at the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) enters its 11th day.

The appeal was made by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Yakubu Bala-Tafida, during a visit to the TCN substation with the SA on Political Affairs and Power, Alhaji Kabiru Sani Giant.

He stated that the call became necessary due to the residents’ ongoing power outage for 11 days.

Two transformers at the TCN – 90MVA (330KV/132KV) and 60MVA (132KV/33KV) – were recently destroyed by fire, according to reports.

The SSG explained that he was at the TCN to oversee the repair work on the governor’s orders because he did not want his people to be in the dark.

While expressing satisfaction with the level of work done at the power station thus far, he stated that the team of engineers had assured him that their headquarters in Abuja had given them two weeks to fix the light.

“We came to see the level of effort being made to repair the burned-out power station.” We are pleased. All we need from our people are prayers for them to do a good job and finish it on time,” he added.
