The 13 Brigade of the Nigerian Army has initiated ‘Exercise Still Waters 3’ in the Ikang community of Bakassi local government, Cross River State. This exercise aims to curb criminal activities and address security threats in the state.

The primary objectives of ‘Exercise Still Waters 3’ include reducing incidents of kidnapping, sea piracy, and other forms of criminality within the maritime domain of Cross River State.

Brigadier Gen. E.I. Okoro, the Commander of the 13 Brigade, Nigerian Army, highlighted that the exercise was a part of the Nigerian Army’s activities for 2023. It was designed as a field exercise to enhance the professionalism and preparedness of troops in dealing with contemporary security threats.

The exercise will focus on real-time operations, addressing security challenges such as kidnapping, cultism, militancy, arms proliferation, and sea piracy. It will also involve cooperation with other security agencies, strengthening the existing synergy among these agencies in the state.

The Commanding Officer emphasized that ‘Exercise Still Waters 3’ would elevate the intensity of operations and ensure no respite for criminals within the area of responsibility. The exercise will encompass operations in both land and maritime domains, which are often volatile, unpredictable, and ambiguous in real-time situations.

The Deputy Governor of Cross River State, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, who represented Governor Senator Bassey Edet Out at the event, expressed the state government’s commitment to supporting security agencies in their efforts to combat insecurity in the state. This exercise is a significant step towards enhancing security and maintaining law and order in Cross River State.
