This information was revealed by the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Odiko Ogbeche-Macdon, during an interview with Punch on Sunday.

Ogbeche-Macdon further mentioned that the State Criminal Investigation Department has taken charge of the case under the directive of the state Commissioner of Police, Olatoye Durosinmi.

“The officer involved is still in custody and the matter is being handled at the State CID by the Deputy Commissioner on the instructions of the Commissioner of Police who ordered a diligent investigation. The command never kept mute and is open to addressing any pending issue,” he said.

Akang and five other policemen attached to the command’s Anti-Kidnapping and Anti-Cultism Unit were said to have stormed Ibong Otoro village on September 9, 2023, and shot sporadically.

During the raid, a bullet allegedly fired from Akang’s rife hit Charlie.

Earlier in an interview with journalists, members of the deceased’s family claimed that the state command offered them N1.2m and asked them to sign an undertaking to stop legal proceedings and keep the matter away from the media.

The policemen were said to have fled the scene after killing the father of four.

The deceased’s sister, Esther, and his brother, Destiny, disclosed this.

“But what we want now is justice. Our brother had four kids before he died and the oldest child is 10 years old. Now, there is no one to cater for the children as his wife is jobless,” Esther said.
