  • Onuoha condemned the incident and ordered the Deputy Commissioner of Police to initiate an immediate investigation into the clash
  • The CP reiterated the command’s commitment to engaging key stakeholders in Election Security Management to ensure a secure electoral environment

On Thursday, Bethrand Onuoha, the commissioner of police for Kogi, issued an order to look into reports of an attack on a police officer during a purported political altercation in the state’s Idah Local Government Area.

According to a statement released in Lokoja by SP Williams Ovye-Aya, the Public Relations Officer for the state command, the CP was concerned about a viral video that appeared to show the police officer in critical condition.

After denouncing the occurrence, Onuoha gave the order for the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department to get to work and look into the altercation right away.

The CP reiterated the command’s unwavering commitment to continue to engage the critical stakeholders in Election Security Management to ensure a secure environment for the electoral process.

“This command is ever determined to provide a level playing ground for all political parties as they embark on campaigns, rallies, processions, among others.

“But all would-be trouble makers who are hell-bent on causing violence to undermine the credibility of the electoral process in the state should stay away from such acts or face the wrath of the police.

“This is because we are in synergy with other security agencies in election security management and will not hesitate to deal decisively with anyone caught disrupting the electoral process, ” the CP warned
