In a humanitarian gesture directed by the custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has undertaken the remarkable effort to airlift Nigerian conjoined twins for a critical surgical separation in Riyadh.

Hassana and Husaina Hassan Isa, conjoined twins from Kano, Nigeria, who are physically connected at the chest and share vital organs, are set to undergo a complex separation surgery facilitated by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSARelief). This surgery presents a formidable medical challenge due to the intricate nature of their connection.

KSARelief, in collaboration with a team of distinguished Saudi surgeons and medical professionals, is embarking on a journey to offer these children the opportunity for a brighter and healthier future.

The surgery, scheduled to take place at King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh, is expected to be a groundbreaking moment in the realm of pediatric surgery. The process will involve a comprehensive medical evaluation of the conjoined twins, with a dedicated team of experts, including pediatric surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nurses, overseeing the entire procedure.

The family of the twins will be accommodated in Riyadh, and a robust support system will be in place to provide them with comfort and assistance throughout this crucial journey.

This initiative underscores Saudi Arabia’s unwavering commitment to humanitarian causes and its dedication to helping those in need, irrespective of their nationality or background.

Notably, Saudi Arabia has a history of addressing healthcare needs in other countries, particularly through the distinctive Saudi Conjoined Twins Programme. Since its establishment in 1990, this program has reviewed 133 sets of conjoined twins referred from 24 countries, successfully separating 59 sets of twins.

The dignitaries of Kano State, including Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and his Deputy Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, along with other cabinet members, witnessed the emotional airlift of the conjoined twins at the VIP section of Aminu Kano International Airport. The governor conveyed his well-wishes for a successful surgery and a speedy recovery for the twins.
