  • The fire started around 5 am on Monday morning and rapidly spread through the market’s vibrant stalls and shops

The popular Central Market in Kabba, Kogi West senatorial district of the State was razed down by an inferno in the wee hours of Monday, burning down properties worth millions of naira.

It was gathered that the fire which started in the morning on Monday 27 November 2023, leaving traders and members of the community in shock and sorrow as the flames consumed numerous businesses and sources of livelihood.

According to an eyewitness account, the fire started around 5 am on Monday morning and rapidly spread through the market’s vibrant stalls and shops.

Sympathizers rushed to the scene to combat the inferno and prevent further spread but Despite their efforts, the intensity of the blaze made containment challenging.

Eyewitnesses said shop owners were helpless as they watched their investments succumb to the flames. The market, known for its diverse array of goods, from fresh produce to textiles and electronics, now stands in ruins.

Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing, with authorities working to determine whether it was a result of electrical faults, negligence, or any other contributing factors.

Meanwhile, members of the community faulted the absence of firefighting equipment that would have been helpful in putting out the flame.
