Godwin Waheed, a driver from Lagos, was placed under remand by the Yaba Magistrate’s Court due to accusations that he abducted, detained, and sexually assaulted a female on the Third Mainland Bridge.

Magistrate Patrick Nwaka heard two charges against the defendant that involved wrongful custody, incarceration, and defilement of his alleged passenger.

The 44-year-old was accused of abducting, holding, and defiling the victim after transporting her as a passenger in his Toyota Sienna.

According to the police, Waheed threatened the victim to undress inside his car with a blade before puncturing her.

Luck ran out on him when the fuel in his vehicle finished and he could not run away from the scene.

According to the police prosecutor, Thomas Nurideen, the defendant committed the offence on October 15, 2023, from 8 pm to 10 pm on Third Mainland Bridge.

He said the offences violate sections 272 and 26 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendant’s plea was, however, not taken.

The prosecutor prayed the court to remand the defendant at the correctional centre pending legal advice from the office of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions.

Granting the prayer of the prosecutor, Nwaka ordered that Waheed be remanded at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre pending legal advice from the DPP and then adjourned the case till January 15, 2024, for the DPP’s advice.
