The Lagos State Government, in collaboration with the Ministry for Establishments and Training and the Office of Sustainable Development Goals, has joined forces with UK Aid, the Foreign Commonwealth Development Office, and Tech4Dev to educate 3,000 public servants in digital literacy.
During the commencement of the training at the Public Service Staff Development Centre, Magodo, the Commissioner for Establishments and Training, Mr. Afolabi Ayantayo, emphasized Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to equipping the state’s workforce with essential skills for excellence and active contribution to the state’s development.
“The world is evolving at an unprecedented pace, and our ability to harness the potential of digital tools will determine our effectiveness and relevance in our individual places of work. Therefore, the need for civil servants to be proficient in the realm of digital technology is not just a necessity but a strategic imperative,” Ayantayo said.
The commissioner expressed the hope that the training programme would enhance productivity across various government ministries, departments, and agencies and improve service delivery.
In her remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Establishments and Training, Mrs Olubusola Abidakun, said the programme was “designed to empower over 3,000 civil servants with the skills and knowledge required to overcome the complexities of the digital age,” adding that it also aims to enhance participants capabilities and foster a mindset of adaptability within the state’s public service.
The training programme, which commenced on Thursday, will end on February 14, 2024, with 10 batches of 300 participants being trained per batch for four days each.
