Protest Won’t Change Apex Court Ruling – Nasarawa Governor

• Governor Abdullahi Sule urges against protests after Supreme Court reaffirms his election victory, calls for opponents to join in state development
• Sule appreciates maturity of APC members, invites dissenters to contribute to Nasarawa State’s growth and development

Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has advised against protests in response to the Supreme Court’s affirmation of his victory in the March 18, 2023 election. He urged those dissatisfied with the ruling to learn from the mature response of All Progressives Congress (APC) members who refrained from protesting when he initially lost at the tribunal.

Speaking to State House reporters after a meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Abuja, Governor Sule emphasized that protests would not alter the apex court’s verdict. He invited his opponents to join him in building the state without any resentment.

In reaction to the protests in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital, Governor Sule explained, “Nasarawa is a state where we had over 600,000 votes, and we won with over 340,000 votes, so you will know that over 200,000 people did not vote for us. If out of these 200,000 people, and another set of 1,000 people are protesting somewhere, then you will know because it’s a day that not everybody will be happy.”

He highlighted the maturity displayed by the ruling party, stating, “We are a very mature political party, we’re the ruling party in the country, we’re the ruling party in the state, and we’re showing a good example, so that’s why we will not protest.”

Governor Sule thanked Almighty God and the President for upholding fairness and allowing the justice system to function. He called on opponents to join hands in developing the state, emphasizing Nasarawa’s potential as the only state in the North-Central with a commercial quantity of oil and ongoing mineral processing projects.

“As far as we are concerned in Nasarawa State, we have won unanimously at the Court of Appeal. We also won today with the five justices being led by a panel of the highly respected Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun (JSC),” he added.
