  • There were claims of kidnapping incident at River Park Estate

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has dismissed claims of a kidnapping incident at River Park Estate, Abuja, describing it as fake news.

According to the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh in a statement posted on the command’s X account late Saturday, a resident named Nnandi Agu from Games Village had staged his own kidnapping in an attempt to defraud his brother residing in the mentioned Estate.

Adeh confirmed that the suspect is in police custody and stated, “The FCT police Command is aware of the news making rounds about an alleged kidnapping incident at River Park estate in the early hours of today (yesterday) and wishes to state that contrary to reports, nobody was kidnapped in River Park Estate.

“One Nnandi Agu ‘m’ of Games Village only faked his own kidnap in an attempt to defraud his brother who lives within the said Estate.

“The suspect is currently in police custody undergoing interrogation.

“While an investigation is still ongoing, further development would be communicated to the public.”

Meanwhile, The estate management has also swiftly responded, categorically stating that the information was entirely false.

In a notice to the residents, it clarified, “This is to bring to the attention of all Residents that the information going around that there is a kidnapping incident within the estate is false.

“We only have an incident of a man from Games Village who made attempt to dupe his brother who lives within the Estate under the guise that he was kidnapped. Currently, he is under investigation as he has been arrested.

“In fact, his brother Mr. Henry Davidson was the one who directed them to come to River Park to collect the money with the aim that our security would apprehend them. And truly, they were apprehended once they got around the Estate.”
